Hi, I'm Dominque!
Hi, I'm Dominque!
I help communities connect with each other and the natural world through activism, environmentalism, and creative writing.
I help communities connect with each other and the natural world through activism, environmentalism, and creative writing.
As a young person, I found my love of story-telling through my local library and became invested in the lives I encountered through books and graphic novels. I loved and cherished the connection of fantasy through the natural environment. As I became older, I polished my story-telling skillset through writing and studying the magic of the natural world.
I began my journey at Southern Crescent Technical College and earned my AAS in Environmental Horticulture, as well as certifications in Garden Technology, Sustainable Agriculture, and Turf Grass Maintenance. I continued my studies at Unity College, earning my BS in Environmental Studies in 2021. I am currently enrolled at Maharishi International University and am pursuing a Masters of Arts degree in Creative Writing.
My career humbly began at a local bookstore in 2017, and in 2019 I was able to land a job with the University of Georgia Extension Services in my county. I then transferred to the County Library System as a Library Assistant and was promoted to Assistant Library Manager for the Jonesboro Branch Library. Upon preparing for a presentation, I discovered Alternate ROOTS, a southern based non-profit grassroots organization that both tended to my creative needs and environmental skillset. I was offered a position as the Program Assistant for the Strategic Partnerships Team, helping artists connect with members and providing grant programs. Through this, I was able to connect with Erin Washington and was offered a contract as an environmental consultant for FreshGreens Market, a community garden in Montgomery, Alabama that strives to build a fully functional farm and greenhouse for the inhabitants of Clarke Street, a historical neighborhood on the West side of Montgomery. I have launched my career as a freelance contractor and can provide services such as creative writing, technical writing (specializing in environmental technical writing) and environmental consulting. I am currently employed with the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta as a PA for Income and Wealth, as well as Arts, Culture, and Creative Enterprises.
In my spare time, I read comic books and graphic novels, play Dungeons and Dragons, and continue working on my first fantasy novel.
I was honored to work for Alternate ROOTS with an 8 month contract as a Partnerships Program Associate. I was in charge of assisting the Director of Strategic Partnerships in coordinating grant programs (application process, panel reviews, data keeping, and communications with each grant recipient) which included the Partners in Action Program, the Partners for Change Program, and two rounds of Artistic Assistance (Project Development and Professional Development). I also created a series of six 30 minute short films that acted as a spotlight for our Partnership Cohorts. I was able to travel around the southern region of the United States and connect with ROOTS members and service them to the best of my abilities.
